CBDRT has given a donation to local student Hannah Falconer, to support her contribution to the World Scout Jamboree. Hannah was previously in the 31st Pentland (Juniper Green) Scout Group, and was then an Explorer with the local EDGE Explorer Scout Unit, and has helped as a Young Leader at the 51st Balerno Cubs. As well as contributing to her costs, the money she raises in order to attent the Jamboree helps pay the costs for Scouts from other countries who could not otherwise afford to attend. Hannah says: “Thank you very much, this is fantastic news…please pass my thanks on to the rest of the Currie, Balerno & District Round Table – that would be very much appreciated.”

Tickets are selling fast for the 3rd Annual Currie Beer and Curry Festival, to be held at the Gibson Craig Hall on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th June. There are a few tickets available for Friday 13th June – and the Saturday has sold out!
The organisers are delighted to announce that Sort My PC, the local IT support company, have agreed to act as main backer for the event, and many local businesses and trades-people are sponsoring barrels of beer. Ross Henderson, sponsorship co-ordinator, said: “This is fantastic, and we are grateful to Sort My PC for their generous sponsorship. The more sponsors we get, the more money is available for good causes and community events, and it’s great to see local businesses helping to support the Beer Festival.”
For £120 a beer barrel sponsor receives two free tickets to the event (worth £20 each), their logo emblazoned on their barrel, their company details listed on the Festival Facebook page with a link to their website, and the opportunity to distribute business cards at the festival.
All proceeds from the Beer Festival go to supporting charities, good causes and community events, and tickets and sponsorship packages can be purchased online at www.cbdrt.com.
Meanwhile, Round Table business continues. Members at their AGM in April heard that the organisation had distributed over £11,000 to good causes during the year – all made possible through the efforts of Round Table volunteers and supporters, and the generosity of local people. Four more organisations benefited this month from Round Table awards: Harlaw Monday Club, The Octagon Club, Nether Currie Mother and Toddler Group and Mindroom.
Currie, Balerno and District Round Table has supported the learning difficulties charity Mindroom with a £700 donation. Sophie from Mindroom said: “Thank you so so much. We have calculated that it costs Mindroom £50 to help one child and family, and so with your donation you have enabled us to help 14 children and their families. That is simply wonderful.”
