CBDRT AGM 2022

Currie Balerno & District Round Table AGM, 17 April 2022

The Currie & Balerno District Round Table came together for their AGM in April at the Kinleith Mill, Juniper Green.

Reflecting on the past year, we were delighted to have resumed our full calendar of community events. The Beer Festival was held in October, later than usual, once restrictions had eased. It takes a big volunteer effort to organise, set up and take down, but it was all worth it to see (and partake in) a great community event. Currie Chieftans supported us with staffing on the two nights… we are always on the lookout for new volunteers to help in the week running up to the event and the Sunday afterwards. The fireworks display returned after missing 2020. It drew an enthusiastic crowd and brought good cheer to us all in the autumnal nights.

Santa returned with a bang (and flashing lights and Christmas tunes) in December visiting kids of all ages throughout Currie, Balerno, Juniper Green, Baberton and Bonaly. He also made special trips to Harmeny School, Balerno Cubs and Capability Scotland. Along with Round Table members there were over 100 other helpers which was an amazing feat of community involvement. People gave so generously, enabling Santa to raise a record amount which is all being given to local charities and good causes.

Our charity donations this year continued to support local people affected by the pandemic via contributions to community food banks including Community for Food, Bethany Trust, Broomhouse One Stop Shop and Holy Trinity Foodbank.

Other groups funded included 51st Scouts (Balerno), Wildfire Explorers, The Meeting Place, Ravelrig Riding for the Disabled, Currie High School Breakfast Club, Currie Playgroup, Harmeny School, Currie Chieftans, Prosecco fund raiser in aid of Marie Curie, and the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. We were also pleased to contribute towards the cost of defibrillators at Tanners and the Riccarton Inn.

In total, £14,000 was given to 20 organisations. We would like to give a huge thank you to all who volunteered, donated, and attended events during the year – which made this possible. If you would like to make a request for funding, please get in touch

Our social events for members included hikes, barbeques, quizzes, beer tastings and badminton. If you are interested in volunteering or getting involved with any of our events, charities or socialising, please drop us a line. We are an enthusiastic local group always keen to welcome new people.
